Support for Mary, Jason, Adelaide and Noah: Fire Recovery
Donation protected
On January 7th, my good friend Mary texted me, "I think we are going to have to go." The wind was fierce, and a fire was rapidly growing in Eaton Canyon. There was no power, so in complete darkness, Mary and Jason packed up some essentials, loaded the kids and the dog, and made their way out. We had no idea the devastation we would wake up to the next morning.
So many friends have lost homes, completely burned to the ground. It's unfathomable. Complete neighborhoods are gone. At first, I was so relieved for Mary and her family, knowing her home was still standing, but as they get more information, it is clear that Mary, Jason, Adelaide, Noah, and their dog Rizer will not be able to live in the place they've called home for the last 6 years. The smoke that seeped through old windows and doors has left toxic ash and fumes on everything. Even though their house is standing, it has been determined by insurance that this will be a total loss. Matter
Mary finally conceded and let me make this page for her (she still doesn't want it). The people whose homes were not burned won't be able to live in their homes for at least months, but more likely years. The entire surrounding area is decimated, and the community is gone. We are so thankful that our friends are safe, and they might be able to salvage a few things, but they will need support. They will need to find a new home and they will have to replace anything they didn't grab while evacuating in total darkness. Housing in the area was already extremely competitive. This tragedy will make it 100 times worse. Beds, Mattresses, bedding, furniture, rugs, toys, clothes, appliances, Christmas....EVERYTHING will need to be replaced.
If you are looking for a family to support after this devastating tragedy, please support Mary, Jason, Adelaide, and Noah. Anything helps, and the road will be long.
