Aid for Mario's Recovery and Expenses

My name is Melanie Colon. I am on here trying to help raise money for my dad, Mario Colon, for monthly bills and multiple medical bills that keep piling up.

My dad’s health issues started in late 2024. An injury to his foot led to a toe having to be surgically removed, then another. The doctors noticed that his foot wasn’t getting any better and there was no blood flow getting to his foot, which led to a lower leg amputation. Now he is wheelchair-bound.

A couple of weeks after getting the amputation, he ended up with pneumonia/COVID, which led to a hospital stay. While at the hospital for a couple of hours, he went into cardiac arrest. The nurses revived him, but he was sedated for a couple of days. They found out that his heart wasn’t working like it should, so he ended up having to get a heart surgery called CABG. That has slowed him down even more.

He only has one insurance, so it hasn’t been covering all of the medical bills, only half, and he has been responsible for the rest. He’s tried to apply for another insurance but has been denied twice for reasons beyond our control. The medical bills haven’t been able to be paid, and they just keep piling up. Monthly bills and utilities have been hard to keep up with this past month and will be for the next couple of months.

This is something that is not usual for me to do, but I feel like this is the last resort to try and get some help. I have also been out of work for about a year now due to having to take care of the bills being paid, making sure the house is in good shape, having to take care of him, and making sure he gets to all of his doctor’s appointments.
