Aid for Linda and Nessa's Stability

My name is Nessa Amherst, and I'm an actor & writer based in the Washington, DC area. And this is my mother, Linda.

On 03 March 2025, my mom received the unfortunate news that she had been laid off from her job at a government contractor she's been with for the past three years, working on drafting and creating contracts for organizations who had studies based in education, science, and healthcare. When those programs started to dwindle, so did the opportunities for my mom to keep on working.

It was a shock to both of us, and I never thought that the actions taken by the administration would hit us so close to home. And I never thought that my mom would have to be one of the thousands of federal employees looking for a new job just to keep things afloat for us. At the moment, we're okay financially with my mom receiving benefits from her job and severance pay, as well as unemployment. But those funds could only take us so far before we start to get desperate, and the hours I get from my day job and acting career are not enough to sustain us both in the long term.

I don't think either of us are the type of people to ask for help financially because we've always found a way to get by.
