On behalf of Magdaleno M. "Leno" Rose-Avila and his family, I've been asked to create this GoFundMe for those wishing to honor and support Magdaleno in his time of need.
"In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask for donations, as they will be of greatest support."
As of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Magdaleno has been in the intensive care unit at a Seattle hospital. He was visiting friends when they recognized he was in severe distress and got him to the hospital. Magdaleno's wife Caro, daughter Aviva, and son Kimbo have been with him and other family members are traveling to be with him.
In a nutshell there are a number of significant ailments have caught up with our friend and Brother. The cumulative effect is that it is unclear whether Leno will be able to recover from this one, but we maintain hope and prayer. This guy has been on his death bed several times over his many years.
The plan as of Friday (4/17/26) is to treat his various ailments, keep him comfortable, and there will be a meeting of health care providers with Magdaleno and his family on Monday to re-assess the situation. A decision will be made to either continue treatment, or shift to a hospice situation.
Many people have asked how they can help. The following is from Aviva, Magdaleno's daughter:
Yes, a GoFundMe would be incredibly helpful. The funds would be used for medical expenses and, if needed, funeral arrangements. If we receive more than is needed, we plan to donate the remainder in his name to organizations supporting immigrants along the Mexico–U.S. border, continuing the work he has dedicated himself to.
In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask for donations, as they will be of greatest support.
