On behalf of Magdaleno M. "Leno" Rose-Avila and his family, I've been asked to create this GoFundMe for those wishing to honor and support Magdaleno in his time of need. We are so very grateful to each and every one of you.
"In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask for donations, as they will be of greatest support."
UPDATE 6/5/26: Changing the name and purpose of this GoFundMe to the Leno Rose-Avila Legacy Fund, and updating the goal to $100,000.
UPDATE 5/7/26: Magdaleno “Leno” Rose-Avila died today at a hospital in Seattle after a weeks-long closing of a life well-lived in pursuit of love, justice and human rights for all people. He was loved by many and is survived by his wife Carolyn Rose-Avila, his son Kimbo Tenorio, his daughter, Aviva Rose-Avila, and a large extended family.
****************
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Magdaleno was admitted to the intensive care unit at a Seattle hospital. He was visiting friends when they recognized he was in severe distress and got him to the hospital. Magdaleno's wife Caro, daughter Aviva, and son Kimbo have been with him and other family members and friends traveled to be with him in his final days.
Many people have asked how they can help. The following is from Aviva, Magdaleno's daughter:
Fund raised here have already been used for medical and cremation expenses as well as covering the costs of cleaning and closing out Magdaleno's rented home and storage unit in Mexico. We also paid off his outstanding bills.
We are so very grateful to everyone who helped our family in this time of need. Due to overwhelming and ongoing generosity of people who knew and love Magdaleno, we have planned several celebrations of life in his honor and memory over the course of the summer. We believe that sufficient funds have been raised to cover those costs.
We are now turning to the preservation of my Papa's legacy. Our goal is to raise at least an additional $50,000 (current total goal is $100K) with which to continue processing some of the many historical artifacts and papers he has left us, and also, to be able to make a meaningful final donation in Magdaleno's name to the organizations and causes he dedicated his life’s work to supporting in the fields of justice, human rights and helping others.
Thank you.
