I'm MJ Gandon, FNP, a nurse practitioner who has worked in trauma medicine and emergency response since 2016. Along with friends we are trying to help out the Los Angeles community during this LA fire, in the last three days, we have moved horses, saved 12 bunnies, provided housing for 24 Las Vegas firefighters, collected, organized, and handed out donations throughout Pasadena. We also committed to pre-paying rent for families for one month of a place to stay - without any funds.
There are over 180,000 people without housing in a city that already struggles with housing. This is going to be years of recovery and we are hoping to raise funds for the long-term help for these victims. We want to lease a warehouse for the influx of donations to have the space to organize by category and shelf life date to make sure families have continued support.
I am also working with several organizations and we have NO MORE SPACE to house these donations. We are trying to distribute; however, we are overstocked, but this is momentary and these families will have to restock. That's when we want to be able to step in again. Let's come together as a community and get a long-term plan to house families, and provide clothes, essentials, toiletries, food, and anything else they might need.
