Aid for Kyle's Long Road to Recovery
Donation protected
Friday 05/18 - I'm so grateful to have Kyle home. Thank you to all our friends and family who have donated and assisted in other way. Everything has been put towards rent and other bills to keep them off my mind. There are still so many unknowns. Kyle can hold a fantastic conversation and will almost appear normal to a degree, there are many holes in his memory and word search so you may notice him slow down or mis use words and not know it. We will see what therapy brings. Scans next week will show where the blood sits and we will move forward. He may never regain the memories he lost and that sucks, but for now it's just day by day that's all we can do.
Monday 05/06:
Back to the ICU we go. Kyle's been having headaches, but I just felt like they were off today and we took him in and the scan revealed a difference. He is not as "messed up" as before, but noticeable behavioral issues and words slurs. Maybe this team will help drain the blood and relieve his pressure...
Update Thursday 05/02:
We are home, we have been home for a few days and it's not been 100%. There is a noticeable change in his behavior, mannerisms and missing memories and words. He is spending a lot of time resting. He doesn't remember how to play his games, he doesn't remember what shows he liked to watch, he doesn't last very long around our kids or people he doesn't even realize some of his things are missing (removed for safety reasons). It's hard to watch. Our 14 year anniversary is May 14th and I'm not sure he will remember, seeing this side of my best friend sucks... thanks for the continuing support. We are taking it day by day...
Update: Monday 4/29:
The goal today is to be transferred! We had to select a rehabilitation facility which is thankfully MUCH closer than the hospital. He will have 3 hours of therapy and this is due to concerns on his short term memory. His long term seems to be perfectly in tact. He still is incorrect on small things. You can tell in a conversation with him, he misses our kids names, mis pronounces or completely uses a different word which can make things difficult to understand with him. We are hoping his stint in rehab is short, he is still very tired and sleeping alot and there is a level of aggression caused by confusion. All in all though considering what has occurred in the past week this man is an OX, he is already asking to go back to work I told him to hold his horses and heal, providing for me and the kids is always in the forefront of his mind. Thank you all for the constant support, he may not understand it right now, but in the long run I know he will be grateful!
Update Saturday 4/27:
We've moved out of the ICU! It's amazing, honestly though didn't expect anything less from this man. He is more alert, eating and speaking more clearly. He has gotten his name and dob correct several times now which is a huge improvement. Still jumbling some words and his humor was dry before but yeah, still there. I honestly think he is going to blow through every time line they have in his recovery but it will take patience. He gets very irritable if you don't understand what he is saying even if it's nonsense. He just doesn't understand that it's not coming out clear for us. Thanks all again for the support and I'll continue to update!
Update Friday 4/26:
More alert saying words, definitely has some recognition. The hospital staff has affectionately names his jumbled words as "word salad" he does great at small words but the longer the sentence required it comes out as a jumbled mess. We are *hopefully* moving from ICU to Neuro Telly today where he will continue to see therapists. The long term goal as his brain continues to heal is an inpatient facility (hopefully way closer to home) where he will get lots of speech therapy to retain him. There is no definite timeliness at this point but knowing this stubborn man he will defy all odds and make leaps and bounds. Thank you to all who have donated and I know Kyle would thank you too. It helps support me and the kids as we navigate this time
Hello, I'm Kyle's other half Kristal. We have 5 sweet babies at home waiting for their daddy who is the main breadwinner in the family. I have to take off work to care for kyle and the future is unknown. So many people have asked how to help and so I'm putting this out there. Thank you to all!
Update: Tuesday afternoon Kyle suffered what they believe was a stroke followed by a small aneurysm burst due to the pressure. Any of you that know how stubborn this man is he continued to try and function and he was in Prescott for work. On his way back to work in Tempe he was in a major accident totalling his vehicle. We found the large brain bleed at his visit to the hospital post accident. There is blood and pressure in the left side of his brain impacting certain mobility and his entirety of speech and some memory. If you know Kyle he is a fighter, we are truly hoping for the quickest and best outcome here, but also mentally I'm preparing for a potentially very long recover and tons of therapy to regain speech. Thank you to all who reached out, those who have come to sit and see us and especially my best friend and her husband for watching my babies so I can be present here I don't need much here but if anyone wants to help, meals are always appreciated and helpful in our household as I'm usually the one who does all the shopping so when I'm not there it will be neglected and I'm trying to keep up with it.
