Aid for Kim and Jim's Flood Recovery
Donation protected
Hello friends, family, and compassionate strangers!
My name is Emily and my parents, Kim and Jim, had their house flooded by the recent flash flooding in Barton.
I'm reaching out with the knowledge that our community as a whole comes together in times of need. My parents' home, which is the childhood home that Lexy, Trey, and I grew up in, was devastated by the major flood that left behind a trail of destruction that has turned our lives upside down.
The floodwaters went over the flood wall behind my parents' house and rushed in quickly, damaging major parts of the house. Walls, floors, the water heater, furnace, air conditioners, electrical systems, and precious personal belongings were all submerged or destroyed.
We are incredibly grateful that everyone in our family is safe and that the damage did not lead to a full destruction of the house, but the aftermath has been overwhelming. The cost of drying out the structure, removing mold, replacing appliances, and ensuring everything is safe and livable again, is far beyond what myself and my family can manage on our own.
Unfortunately, insurance will only cover a small portion of the damage, and with the current state of emergency, my parents are unable to access FEMA-based funds. It leaves my parents with tens of thousands of dollars in repair and recovery costs. While we are doing everything we can, we simply can't do this alone.
Anyone who knows my parents knows that they are boots-on-the-ground people when others need help. They have helped others build their homes without asking for anything in return, fed others when they're hungry, cared for others when they're sick, cleaned homes in unlivable circumstances, and shown up time and again for family and friends without a second thought or requesting anything in return. Now it's our turn, those who have gotten help from them time and time again, to step up and return the favor for some of the kindest, most giving people in this county.
Every donation — no matter how small — will go directly toward:
• Emergency cleanup and water damage mitigation
• Structural repairs to walls and floors
• Mold removal and prevention
• Replacement of essential appliances, like the water heater
• Making the home safe and livable again for my family
If you're not able to donate, please consider sharing our story with your own network. Your kindness, help, and support mean more to me, Lexy, Trey, and my parents than words can express. Thank you all! ❤️
