Aid for Kim Alvarez Wickens Dementia Care
"There is no cure. There is no treatment to slow the progression of this disease. All that can be done is manage symptoms."
In November of 2023, our dear sweet Kim Alvarez Wickens was diagnosed with FTD (frontotemporal degeneration). FTD is a pretty rare, aggressive form of early onset dementia. It is the same diagnosis (weirdly at the same time) as Bruce Willis.
On Sunday, April 27, 2025, Chuck, Kim's husband and full-time caretaker, announced on Facebook, "My heart is aching. The weight of this decision feels like I’m dragging an anchor. We have decided that Kim will be moved into a memory care facility. Just putting this out there has its own weight of anxiety. She has become physical in the worst moments. She has screamed at our kids. She has no memory of the life we built."
I know Kim and Chuck from high school. In 2016, when my son was diagnosed with a brain tumor, the first donation I got was a $500 check from Kim with a handwritten letter. I am calling on all friends, family, coworkers, schoolmates, strangers, or anyone that knows Chuck, Kim, and their family. The financial burden of having Kim in a memory care facility will be extreme. There are many costs that are not covered by insurance at all.I'm praying you find it in your hearts to give generously to help this family in need. Every little bit helps! If we all give together, we can really make a difference in their lives. Everything given, will go to the sole beneficiary (Chuck) to aid in the immense cost of Kim's care.
There is no timeline with this disease, no stage to follow. Right now, Kim cannot be left alone or care for herself. She must be watched 24 hours a day.
We will be updating frequently here. Please keep Chuck, Kim, and the Wickens family in your prayers.
With Gratitude, on behalf of the Wickens Family, Thank You.
