Hi my name is Kaitlyn, and on the night of June 30th, my family's world was turned upside down. Our dog Scout, my baby, was viciously attacked by our neighbor’s dog in a completely unprovoked and terrifying incident while my father was simply taking him outside to use the bathroom.
Tragically, this wasn’t the first time. Scout had been attacked once before, and at the time, we chose to be neighborly and didn’t report it, believing they understood the seriousness of the situation and would take proper responsibility.
But this time was different. This time, it was so much worse. The injuries were devastating, far beyond anything we imagined. And now we’re left picking up the pieces of a nightmare that could’ve, and should’ve been, prevented.
The vet told us he barely avoided a punctured chest cavity. Scout was ripped open, bleeding, and in unbearable pain.
We rushed him to the emergency vet, where he was taken into emergency surgery that lasted until 3:30am on July 1st. He needed a drainage tube, staples, stitches, and intense care. Since then, he’s had to go through multiple follow-up appointments, strong pain medication, and antibiotics to fight infection. It’s been heart breaking to watch. The first morning he was home he would doze off standing up because it was so uncomfortable to even lay down.
And here’s the part that’s hardest to write; because of the laws in place, we have no legal way to hold the neighbor accountable for the attack. We are left to carry the entire financial burden alone; and it’s overwhelming.
We are doing everything we can to keep Scout safe and help him heal, but the medical bills are stacking up fast.
If you can help, even just a few dollars, it would mean more than you can imagine. Every donation goes directly to his medical care. If you’re not able to donate, please consider sharing this post, it could help us reach someone who can.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us fight for Scout. He didn’t deserve this.
