Judith, a Sparrow RN, has worked for years on 7W and is now currently in OPCU. Her 21-year-old daughter suddenly developed severe medical issues. We would like to start a collection to take away some of the financial burden. She is a Michigan State University student and has become very sick. It started in April of this year with a simple ear infection. This developed into a sinus infection which showed no improvement after treatment. She went to the emergency room and was admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of mononucleosis and was placed in an observation unit. Later, she required intubation and received a new diagnosis of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). This is a rare disease in which the body attacks itself as it would a virus. It is life-threatening and cannot be prevented. She was then transferred to the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor, where she began chemotherapy. The chemo caused her to develop a bowel leak leading to an ostomy. From this point on, she received a tracheotomy, a chest tube due to lung issues, nearly daily blood transfusions, and nothing seemed to be enough. Her later seizures and brain bleed earned her a transfer to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital on June 27th, where she is still struggling to live. This requires a six-hour drive each way for her parents who do not wish to leave her side. They must pay for a hotel room while staying there. Needless to say, with her dad being on a leave of absence to deal with this and a mother still working when she can to pay the bills, there is a huge financial issue for this dear family. Please help support them with donations to get this loving family through this heart-wrenching time.
