Aid for Jorge Poveda's Funeral

On behalf of the Poveda family, we are devastated by the loss of Jorge Poveda, who passed away on February 7th, 2025, at the age of 74.

Survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary, and his 4 children, Jorge Jr., Jessica, Vannessa, and Enrique, Jorge was a devoted husband and father who always put the needs of his family and loved ones first.

Jorge came from Costa Rica to the United States at the age of 17 and worked tirelessly to obtain citizenship and put himself through college, getting his bachelor's degree in business at Cal State LA.

Jorge grew up loving to dance to salsa and Latin music. He had a rhythm that brought all of the tias and tios to the dance floor at every family gathering and a spirit that brought joy and happiness to everyone around him. Alongside his siblings and with a passion for music and sound, he established a car stereo business that he managed for 30 years. Jorge shared his skills and abilities to employ family and close family friends for decades before the recession of the 2000s took a toll on his business, leading him to close his doors for good. Despite the economic impact, Jorge and Mary didn't stop continuously providing food on the table and a loving home for their family by working multiple jobs at a time to get back on their feet.

In 2014, Jorge was hospitalized from a stroke, and as soon as he recovered, he went right back to working hard every day. Unfortunately, due to the stroke, Jorge developed dementia in the following years, which led him to take an early retirement. Over time, as the dementia worsened, Jorge's wife Mary stood by his side, helping him through his health issues and countless hospital and doctor visits, all while working, covering a mortgage, and providing food and aid for Jorge in his most vulnerable state until his passing on February 7th.

This GoFundMe campaign is to help raise funds for the memorial and funeral costs and to help his wife Mary relieve some of the financial burden and stress of this loss going forward.
