Jillian Meszar's Upright Bass Fund

My name is Jillian Meszar and I have been studying music for over 10 years now through public school systems and over the past 7 years have taken to the Upright Bass. I currently study Music Education at the University of New Hampshire and as of recently have noticed the ever shortening lifespan of my current bass.

During an Orchestral rehearsal recently, I packed my bass up and moved it from lying on its side to standing up (please note that this is normal motion for a bass to do) when I heard a large crack. I noticed that the bottom of my bass had cracked itself inwards and the bottom seams began to split open. Due to the nature of the damage, a repair on my current bass would be extremely expensive (estimated to be worth more than what has been paid on the bass), time consuming and the damage could very well repeat itself.

Currently, I am involved with the University of New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra, 4:00 Jazz Band, Student Combos and I teach Bass lessons to children in the Oyster River School District every week. I am afraid to use my bass in its current condition for fear of making the damage worse, but my life revolves around me playing bass. Simply put, I cannot continue with my major, perform in ensembles, gig or teach without my bass. And while this is certainly a negative for me, there are a small number of Bass players at my University, so it makes a huge impact on the ensembles as well if one is missing.
I am currently raising money in order to buy a new bass to replace the damaged one. My current bass was set up poorly when I bought it in High School, and as a result I have now obtained severe wrist and tendon pain. Between the money to repair this bass, and the medical costs for my wrists, I wouldn't be able to keep up with my passion for music much longer. Thats why I am making this campaign. Many people who know me can testify that I am not one to ask for handouts, and I would be extremely grateful for any and all help this campaign recieves. I am extremely dedicated to my studies, and I have a huge passion for the Upright Bass that, without this campaign would be ceased.
The funds requested for this campaign will be put towards a new bass from Upton Bass String Instrument Company (to be specific, the Karr Double Bass, shown here , or a Bass from a Luthier in Massachusetts of equal value). The funds from this campaign will be used as soon as recieved so I can get back to playing bass and doing what I love.
If you have any questions, I am more than willing to answer them! Thank you so much for your time!
