Aid for Jeff’s debt from mental illness struggle
Donation protected
Hello all,
My name is Jeffrey Ver Planck, I struggle with mental illness, and this has been the darkest winter I’ve ever experienced. I am reaching out through Go Fund Me because I have developed debt that is beyond my means to resolve on my own.
In early February of 2023, I lost my full time job of 9 months due to a lifelong struggle with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and major depressive disorder (MDD.) I have been sidelined multiple times since November of 2022 with what I describe as an internal street fight.
After 4 hospitalizations over the course of three months, I have a new understanding of my disorders and a new care team that has been helping dramatically. I am now better able to predict how my mental and body chemistry will respond to triggers.
During that period, I lost my full time position after exceeding the limits of my company’s sick leave policies. I am in the process of applying for full time positions with new companies, and in that time I have been unable to pay for my storage unit, phone, and my portion of utilities. I’ve heard many times that “many people are one bad month away from poverty.” I am now in that position, currently having zero dollars to my name.
The storage unit I have been paying for since December 2019 will be going to auction March 23rd, 2023. The unit contains what remains of my late mother and father’s personal effects, and 20 years of electronics projects that I have restored and am in the process of restoring.
If I am able to raise the funds needed to pay my storage costs and take the unit out of lien, I would immediately begin clearing the unit and selling 80% of what it contains. I understand that I can no longer afford it, and I would clear the unit and end my contract as soon as possible. I would be able to clear the debt with my utility companies, and keep my phone connected, allowing me to keep the lights on and gas running, and ultimately function as I restore normalcy in life.
My goal is to keep what remains of the lives my mother and father led, like research done by my mother while earning her PhD.
Please let me know if you would like to meet face to face to discuss the situation I’ve developed, or if any more clarity is needed in my description of what’s going on.
Any donation or advice on moving forward would be sincerely appreciated.
Thank you deeply for your time and support.
