Early this morning, a young 18-year-old volunteer firefighter was shot in Canyon City while in the passenger seat of a car on his way home.
Nothing could have prepared these young men for the battle they would face. Early this morning, they were driving down Highway 50 when a guy who seemed to not be right in his mind pulled up next to them. These young men shook it off and continued to drive. A few seconds later, while driving at high speeds, the guy pulled up next to them again and fired a few shots at the car. The driver sped up and got to a safe location. When the passenger looked down, he saw he had been shot in the calf. The driver, taking quick action, applied a tourniquet with his belt and pulled out his med kit to pack the wound with gauze while calling for help. The young man was then transported to Canyon for advanced care.
We are fundraising to support the medical expenses and recovery of this brave young firefighter.
