On the morning of April 30, 2024, our beloved family business, Galvinell Meat Company, was tragically destroyed in a fire. Located in Conowingo, Maryland, Galvinell has been a staple in the community, serving Cecil County and beyond for over 50 years. As we navigate through the aftermath of this devastating event, we turn to our community for support—not just to rebuild Galvinell but to assist the heart of our company: our employees and their families.

Our Story:

Galvinell Meat Company, established over fifty years ago, has always been more than just a butcher shop. Originally owned and operated by the Loy family from 1968 to 1972, the business was purchased by Dennis and Judy Welsh in 1973. Under their leadership, Galvinell flourished into a beloved local landmark celebrated for its exceptional service and craftsmanship. Dennis’s unwavering commitment to growing the business was evident right up until his retirement in 2012.

In 2012, following Dennis’s retirement after many years of dedication, his daughter Jen McGrath and her husband, Dan McGrath, purchased Galvinell Meat Company. They stepped in to continue the family legacy, maintaining the high standards of dedication and care that have always defined Galvinell. The shop has been more than a workplace—it’s been a second home to many, employing numerous family members and dedicated staff throughout the decades. More than just a place of employment, Galvinell has fostered a community where everyone is treated like family.

The Impact of the Fire:

The fire, which started early in the utility room and quickly spread to the attic, caused an estimated $2.5 million in damages. Thankfully, no lives were lost, but the emotional and financial toll has been immense. Our facility now stands in ruins, and our employees are left without their means of livelihood.
