My name is Francis Segedin. My wife and I moved to Georgia from South Carolina 1 year and 9 months ago. We are both retired, but I work part-time as a mental health counselor. We moved to Georgia to be closer to family. We bought a smaller house with a great yard for our animals and were very happy at first. We were here a few months, and my wife was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease. While learning more about her condition, I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
During this time, our dishwasher stopped working. Then we started to have plumbing problems. When we used the kitchen sink, it would back up into the bathroom sink. We hired a plumber to fix the problem. They snaked the sinks, and we could use it for about 24 hours. We called them back. This time, the plumber stated that most of the work under the house was so wrong that we were lucky our toilet and shower were not backing up too. We were told everything had to be replaced. We've now had three different plumbers crawl under our house and tell us what a mess it is. This is the house that we were not planning to do any work on. We had remodeled our last two houses and were looking forward to not living in a house that needed to be remodeled! The estimates range from $10,000 - $16,000.
I am 77 years old, and my wife is 67. I was/am a counselor, and she was a teacher, and we live off our Social Security. We spent all our extra money from the sale of our last home getting the mortgage and trying to eliminate bills. I am trying to get a loan but have been rejected so far.
