Aid for Finnley's Recovery & Family
Donation protected
Hi! Finnley James Kidd is our son, he is 8 months old and is currently in the PICU at the Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs.
He started acting strange a week ago now, not eating, more fussy, overly tired, lethargic at times, so I (his mom) made an appointment with his pediatrician on that Tuesday afternoon. They came to the conclusion that Finnley was constipated and a little gassy so we went home and got things moving as best as we could.
The next day Finnley still wasn’t eating much and acting strange still. My husband and I took him to the ER that evening where Finnley received an Xray and again we were told it was just gas and a little constipation so they gave him a gas medication and sent us home.
Thursday & Friday it seemed he was feeling slightly better so we thought he was no longer constipated or gassy.
Saturday morning things took a turn for the worse and my husband called me from work and urged us to come to the hospital. I immediately agreed and we took the hour long drive to the Children’s Hospital.
As soon as we came in they took a look at Finnley and got all of his symptoms taken down, took his blood sugar, which was low enough to admit us to the ER.
They immediately began testing and before the day was over the doctors had a pre diagnosis of botulism.
We then were admitted to the hospital overnight where they continued to monitor Finnley and run tests, CT scan, and X-rays.
The doctor then was able to rule out a multitude of things and became more confident in his diagnosis but wanted a neurologists second opinion.
Finnley’s oxygen fell lower than normal that evening and we were moved into the PICU for him to be more closely monitored.
While in the PICU two neurologists have looked at Finnley and are certain he has infant botulism. This was the most devastating news to me and my husband, but we were glad we finally had an answer as to what is going on with our baby boy.
After confirming the diagnosis with a team in California, they were able to get the treatment Finnley needs overnighted from California and it was administered today at 3PM.
The doctors have informed us that infant botulism can have a long recovery road anywhere from weeks to months.
My husband and I are in our early 20’s, home owners, and Finnley is our only child. We have no idea if any medical costs will come out of pocket at the moment, but what we are mostly asking for help with funding is our meals and bills. I am a self employed nail technician who booth rents a room and am out of work until my son gets better which means my income has come to a halt, with rent still to pay. My husband makes enough to barely get us by usually, but he will also be out of work for a bit and we still have a home to pay for.
These are the last things we want to worry about at the moment with our son in recovery and we ask that even if you can’t give, you keep us in your prayers and thoughts as we could use the strength to get through this.
