Support the Families of 7 Himalayan Glacier Guides Missing in the Nepal-China Border Floods
On August 26, 2026, a catastrophic glacier collapse triggered flash floods along the Nepal-China (Tibet) border, devastating communities across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and neighboring districts. At the time, two Himalayan Glacier groups were in the region, traveling along the same routes so many of you have traveled with us: the road to Kailash and Mansarovar and the trails toward Langtang and beyond. Since the floods struck, we have been unable to reach or account for a total of 47 people from these two groups, including 40 guests and 7 of our guides. Despite ongoing search efforts, no contact has been made, and no signs of them, alive or otherwise, have been found. More than six days later, these seven guides remain missing:
❤️ Mr. Baburam Khatri
❤️ Mr. Suresh Pandey
❤️ Mr. Pradip Khadka
❤️ Mr. Ang Chering Sherpa
❤️ Mr. Babin Thapa Magar
❤️ Mr. Nurbu Sherpa
❤️ Mr. Santa Bahadur Lepchan
Forty guests from these two groups are also missing, and our hearts are with their families as well. As a small, boutique travel company, and as civilians, there is only so much we are able to do. But we are doing everything within our power and within what is permissible, including coordinating directly with immediate family members who have traveled to Nepal seeking assistance and information.
This fundraiser is focused specifically on the families of our seven guides because, unlike our guests, our guides do not have an embassy or consulate advocating on their behalf. They are Nepali citizens whose families now face this crisis with far fewer institutional resources to draw upon. That is why we are asking their extended community, including you, to step in.
These are our guides, our colleagues, and, for many of you, the men who walked beside you on your own journey. If you’ve trekked to Everest Base Camp with us, walked the trails of Langtang, or made the pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, there’s a good chance one of these men carried your bags, learned your name, checked on you at altitude, and made sure you came home safely. Many Kailash Yatris, in particular, will remember these guides as quiet, steady presences through some of the most sacred and demanding days of the journey.
Now, it’s their families who need to be carried.
Each of these seven families is facing a different reality. Some have one child; some have two or three; and some have aging parents with no other means of support. Because of this, funds raised will not be split evenly among all seven families. Our team in Kathmandu is working directly with each family to assess their specific circumstances, number of dependents, immediate needs, and current hardship. Funds will then be distributed fairly and individually based on that assessment, so that no family is left without adequate support because of a flat, equal split.
One hundred percent of the funds raised, excluding any GoFundMe platform fees and payment or transfer processing fees, will go directly to these families.
We, Himalayan Glacier Adventure and Travel Company, pledge USD 5,000 to be added to the final donation total. By making this contribution separately, we hope to avoid additional fees and ensure that as much of the money as possible reaches the families.
So many of you have written to us over the past few days asking how you can help. This is how.
These guides gave you the mountains. Please help us give their families some measure of security while they wait, and, we wait with them.
PLEASE BE AWARE OF NEFARIOUS INDIVIDUALS ASKING FOR DONATIONS INTO THEIR PERSONAL ACCOUNTS. THIS IS THE ONLY OFFICIAL FUNDRAISER SETUP TO HELP THE FAMILIES OF THE 7 BELOVED HIMALAYAN GLACIER GUIDES.
With gratitude,
Himalayan Glacier Team
and the respective families
