Aid for Edgarlys & Mom: From Jungle to Detention
Donation protected
Hello, this is Edgarlys Castaneda's family. Edgarlys and her mom are detained by ICE. We are asking here on this occasion to help afford legal services and/or to cover their expenses for calling and commissary for both of them.
Edgarlys is a girl from Venezuela who came with her mom to the United States, looking for protection and asylum as she is politically persecuted. Edgarlys is not just an immigrant but an English teacher. She has worked for Clasing, an academy from Spain, as an English teacher and InEvent, a US-based platform, as a customer success specialist. She is now living a difficult situation because she is detained in the El Paso ICE center with her mom while waiting for a resolution for her case of asylum.
To get here, she crossed the Darien jungle with her mom mostly alone because her mom has fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, spine deviation, loss of bone density, and a fracture in a joint of the hip caused by policemen in Venezuela. They have crossed 7 countries to get here; they were kidnapped in Mexico twice and once in Guatemala. They were victims of extortion, theft, and lots of risks - crossing at 2 am through deserts and mountains of Mexico. They had to run away from a town where they were going to be either killed or kidnapped because they didn't want to take guides to cross and they didn't have ways to come back to the city as the town was 5-6 hours away from the city with no transportation.
Right now, in a detention facility, they need help to cover lawyer expenses and food because they give artificial meals every day that are harmful to their health. Edgarlys herself has chronic ulcerative gastritis and skin issues, and the facility is not providing the right treatments. She is in pain, food is not enough, dinner is two sandwiches, breakfast is only one egg, bread, and milk, and sometimes the bread is expired with purple stains.
They have an arrest warrant pending for them back in Venezuela. They have dreams, great values, and principles. They are skilled people with abilities that just weren't in the right place and came to the land of freedom, opportunities, and rights to grow and give back to this country. Their family is here waiting for them, praying to God everything goes well. Her mom is 61 years old and can barely walk right now due to pain and diseases progressing with no treatment.
They are the kind of people this country can benefit from because they are educated, always looking to better themselves, and love to take care of the people around them in the process. They just want to be safe and are looking to reunite with their family.
