What started as a harmless heart murmur years ago has turned into something much more serious for my little brother, Dwayne. After following his doctor’s advice to get it checked out, since the murmur had become louder, he underwent testing and was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve (a congenital heart condition) and an ascending aortic aneurysm. His valve is leaking significantly, which has caused his heart to enlarge.

Dwayne is scheduled for surgery in Miami on August 11th to replace both the valve and aneurysm before the condition becomes life-threatening. Thankfully, it was caught in time. He is currently asymptomatic, stable, and strong, and he’s approaching this challenge with courage and optimism. His family is staying focused on preparation, calmness, and surrounding themselves with love and support.

As you can imagine, being out of work for an extended and uncertain period comes with financial hardship. I’ve created this to help ease that burden and support him and his family during recovery.
