Help My Family Recover After Losing Their Home to Hurricane

Hi, my name is Claire. I am reaching out for help on behalf of my family who recently experienced a devastating loss this past weekend - along with so many others in our community.

Hurricane Helene struck, and my family—mom, dad, my two younger brothers, Ethan and Aidan, and our three beloved dogs (two of whom are 13 years old)—lost our home of over 20 years due to catastrophic flooding. Our hearts are broken as we face the reality of losing the place where we’ve built a lifetime of memories.

This has been an incredibly traumatic experience for all of us, but I’m particularly worried about their living situation and what lies ahead in the coming months. The house is not livable, and they are currently facing the reality of homelessness.

Additionally, their three cars were totaled during the flood. One of the cars belonged to Aidan, who recently turned 16. He was so excited to begin driving his dream car, which he got just this past June. Aidan just started his junior year of high school—a critical time for academics and testing. Now, he, along with Ethan and my parents, is displaced, homeless, and without transportation. I can’t bear the thought of them being unsettled during such an important time in their lives.

There is very little that is recoverable in the home. Considering the loss of their clothing, shoes, appliances, furniture, vehicles, and much more, my family needs help now more than ever.

We are doing everything we can to assist our family and are so grateful for the unwavering support from our friends and family in the area. But we are asking for additional resources during this extremely difficult time. Your support will go towards rebuilding their lives, finding a temporary home, and ensuring my parents, brothers, and elderly dogs are safe and cared for. Anything you can give, no matter how small, will help us get through this unimaginable situation.
