Hello! I'm raising funds for the displaced Lebanese people who are fleeing from the war in Beirut and the Southern countryside who are seeking refuge in our village, Ras El Metn. The funds will go to "Shabab Ras El Metn," our youth rotary, to secure the basic humanitarian needs for familes who have been internally displaced by the fierce war affecting our beloved country, Lebanon.
During the 2024 war, Shabab Ras El Metn provided:
244 mattresses
308 blankets
90 food parcels
75 hygiene and dignity kits
$150 in medicine
Today:
Owing to the recent war starting on March 1st, 2026, there are currently ~800,000+ displaced people in Lebanon, about 15% of the population. We are hoping to assist our Lebanese brothers and sisters in need during this time. Please help us reach our goal!
Who I am: My name is Malak Ghazal, and I am from Kalamazoo, MI, USA, but I recently moved to my native village of Ras El Metn, Lebanon, where I am teaching. I am the organizer of this fundraiser, in partnership with Shabab Ras El Metn, our local youth rotary.
Who the funds are for: These donations are being raised for displaced families, located in Ras El Metn, Lebanon, who have either lost their homes due to the war, or are amongst our most vulnerable local families in need. In the past, Shabab Ras El Metn ha supported displaced families and some 30 local households, most of those are extremely vulnerable, including women who are windows, divorced women but their husbands don't look after them, or women who are old with no support.
Moreover, other households who are led by men, but those men can’t work due to health issues.
How funds will be transferred: Because GoFundMe does not currently support direct transfers to Lebanese bank accounts, I will be withdrawing all donations into my personal US bank account. Once the funds clear into my account, I will immediately send them to Lebanon via Western Union (OMT) for cash pickup in USD. I will keep and can provide receipts for all transfers to ensure every dollar reaches its destination.
Purpose of Funds: These funds will be used strictly for mattresses, blankets, food, medicine, and hygiene kits. With help from our municipality on the needs of our population, we will assess what purchases will be made. Any additional funds will be used to support in neighboring villages such as Qornayel, Khalwat, Hammana, and Falougha.
