Hi, my name is Jackie Cahill, and I’m a close friend of the Burchett family. I’m reaching out to help support them during a very unexpected and difficult time. They are currently facing the financial strain of an unplanned surgery for their dog, Dexter, and I wanted to step in and do what I can to ease that burden. Any support, whether big or small, truly means so much to them and is deeply appreciated. All donations will 100% be going to them to help with these costs from the emergency veterinary. Below is Dexter's story:
On Sunday, May 3rd, our sweet dog Dexter began to have labored breathing. We rushed him to the emergency hospital, where he was diagnosed with Spontaneous Pneumothorax. Air was leaking from his lungs into his chest, preventing his lungs from fully expanding and making it impossible for him to breathe. The doctors tried two blood patches to seal the affected area, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful.
The options were either surgery or humane euthanasia. Even the doctors explained that Dexter is a remarkably healthy dog aside from this small lung leak, and he would have a great quality of life after surgery. We could not let Dexter be put down simply because of the sticker shock of the surgery. We decided to move forward with the operation. The surgeon opened his chest, examined every inch of his lungs, and removed the part of his lung that had a 1.5-centimeter "bleb" causing the air leak. The surgery was successful, and Dexter is now on the long road to recovery.
Mark Burchett, the head baseball coach at Fairport High School, is someone who has given so much to his community over the years. He’s the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Anyone who knows Mark knows he would never ask for help himself—and he isn’t—but that’s exactly why it means so much to come together and support him and his family during this time.
The funds raised will cover the cost of Dexter's surgery and his post-op care. Both Ashley and Mark have full access to this account
