Aid for Daniel Southern’s Recovery and Family Support
Donation protected
On Saturday, September 7, Daniel Southern was at Wolf Pen Gap Trail in Mena, Arkansas. His side-by-side rolled off the side of a mountain trail and fell 30ft down, and he was ejected. Daniel was air-flighted to St. Vincent Hot Springs Hospital. We are foremost thankful and blessed he survived the accident. Daniel sustained a lacerated kidney and spleen and shattered his scapula (shoulder blade). He also lost feeling in his hand and arm due to nerve trauma. While in CHI Hot Springs, he was not told the extent of the injury to his scapula other than it was broken. When he arrived back in Shreveport, he consulted with an orthopedic surgeon and was told the extent of his injuries. He was told it was fractured in multiple areas and possibly could have severed some of the nerves. On September 19, Daniel had surgery to repair his broken scapula at Ochsner LSU Health-St. Mary Medical Center. They were able to repair it with 7 metal plates, 50 screws, and donated bone for bone grafting. He is currently recovering from surgery and nerve damage. Daniel is going to require a lot of care and physical therapy over the next year. He does not have a short- or long-term disability through his employer.
Daniel has always been a hard worker and is currently unable to work.
Donations will be used to pay the hospital bills and care for his children, Tripp (9) and Tenslee (7). His daughter Tenslee was on the trip but not in the accident.
We are so thankful for everyone’s prayers since the accident. Please continue to pray for healing.
