Aid for Dad’s Intensive Rehabilitation Journey

Dear friends, family, and generous strangers,

On November 18th, my dad, Steven McFarlane, went in for what was expected to be a routine spinal fusion surgery in Eugene, Oregon. Tragically, one of his vertebrae was severely weakened during the procedure and he was discharged without anyone realizing what had happened. Within a couple of days at home, he was in excruciating pain and unable to stand or walk.

After being taken by ambulance to a local hospital, scans revealed he had a crushed vertebrae and urgently needed to return to Eugene for a corrective surgery. Unfortunately, due to lack of beds and staffing shortages during the long Thanksgiving weekend, they were unable to transfer my dad for four days. Although the second surgery was successful, the delay caused significant injury to his spinal cord, and he now faces the possibility of never walking again. He is currently in intensive rehab, fighting every day to regain mobility.

Before this life-altering event, my dad was finally living his retirement dreams with my mom exploring the US by RV, building a home in Bandon, Oregon, and enjoying the freedom they both works so hard for. My dad's passion has always been woodworking and building anything anyone needed. He’s the guy who could fix anything: repairing homes, renovating kitchens, tuning up cars, plowing neighbors’ driveways when the snow got too deep. He has spent his life helping others, never asking for a thing in return.

Now they need help. My mom has moved into a temporary apartment in Eugene to support his rehabilitation, and expenses for rehab, medical co-pays, lodging, and transportation are nearly $18,000. My hope is to ease the financial burden so they can focus on healing and adapting to this new reality.

If you’re able to give, any amount will help ease their financial stress during this incredibly difficult time. If you can’t donate, sharing this campaign means so much. Thank you for supporting my parents as they navigate this life-changing journey.
