Aid for Bolivia, Food & Essentials during Covid-19

Unidad Para Bolivia is fundraising to purchase and distribute food bags and essential needs to the most vulnerable sectors of the population in Santa Cuz, Bolivia, as well as the regions surrounding the city.

Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 worldwide, and the fact that Bolivia has very limited infrastructure to fight the disease and to treat possible patients, the government of Bolivia imposed a complete lockdown for over a month now, and Santa Cruz - which has been the most affected city in terms of coronavirus cases - has been placed under militarized control to ensure the population follows the strict quarantine rules.

This quarantine has impeded an enormous proportion of the population, particularly those that work in informal sectors, and that make money to sustain their families by the day. It is worthy to point out that Bolivia has the largest informal economy as a percentage of its total economy, according to the IMF, with a percentage surpassing 62.3%. For these reasons, a big part of this sector of the population is extremely vulnerable, and due to not having the possibility to work and make the day-to-day minimum income they depend on, they have been limited - and in some cases unable - to access food or basic needs.

I have actively participated in the collection and distribution of food bags with CEBOFIL (Centro Boliviano de Filantropia) as well as Plato Lleno, which are two organizations currently helping people in need during these difficult times. Thus far, I have participated in the distribution of 500 food bags for families in need. However, seeing the vast necessity of many that are yet to be helped, I am making this fundraiser to expand this aid and make a separate humanitarian project through "Unidad para Bolivia", and with a team of already committed volunteers in Santa Cruz.

The main targets for this fundraiser are vulnerable families and people that are in great need and have not received help from other organizations yet, communities and villages that are beyond the city's borders, the elderly in need, shelters for abused women and girls, orphanages, and the list will expand as requests arise.

Our goal of raising $5,000 would help approximately 350 families in need. Each would receive bags with food and essentials which are worth $15 on average. Depending on the success of this first stage of our aid project, and on the possible continuation of the quarantine in Bolivia, we would look to expand this initiative, and increase the amount of beneficiaries of this humanitarian effort.
Only with YOUR help can we achieve this!

Once the aid project is completed, we will make available, for everyone’s review, the full accounts of the expenditures covered with the donations, as we believe that transparency is fundamental.

Thank you for being part of this aid project!
