Hi, I'm Bethany, and I'm in desperate need of help.

For over a year now, we’ve been facing difficulties with our car that have put a dent in our wallet and everyday lives. From problems with the coolant reservoir to the engine cooling fan and the engine repeatedly overheating, it’s been one challenge after another.

We’ve taken our car to be serviced multiple times, only to have our concerns brushed off with minor issues fixed. Now, we find ourselves in a major car emergency, a situation complicated by the expiration of our warranties. Unlike previous repairs, all expenses now must come out of our pocket.

These unforeseen car repairs have added to an already stressful financial situation. Due to family and household repair emergencies (we live in an older house), we’ve fallen two months behind on our mortgage. The pressing need to prioritize emergencies over mortgage payments has left us needing help to catch up.

Both my life partner and I work in essential, high-need jobs, but sadly, high-need jobs often come with low pay. I work as a preschool inclusion specialist, driving to various counties to support families and caregivers of young children with disabilities. My partner, who is autistic and unable to drive, works as a hospital janitor. Because I'm the only one who can drive, our car is essential for both of our jobs.

With the uncertainty surrounding the time required for car repairs, we had no choice but to rent a car for a week, another expense we couldn’t afford. Here’s a breakdown of the urgent costs we’re facing:

Auto repair & rental car: $2,200 ($1750 + $450)

June & July mortgage payment: $2,700 ($1,350/month)

TOTAL: $4,900

For quite some time, we’ve applied for part-time jobs to alleviate these ongoing burdens. Still, we’ve often been told we’re too overqualified or received no response. These series of unfortunate events have left us with limited options.

We’re seeking support and aid to cover these emergency car expenses and to catch up on our mortgage. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to stability and peace of mind.
