Aid for Axel
Donation protected
In early September of 2020, 7 month old Axel visited the doctor for what seemed to be the beginning of an eye infection. He was prescribed antibiotics, and after a week of his eye becoming more swollen and not improving, he was promptly sent to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. This is a two hour drive north of Axel's hometown. He was given an MRI and the doctors discovered a mass behind his eye, assumed to be a tumor. A biopsy was performed and after a painful wait, the doctors had to tell Axel's family that he has been diagnosed with a rare cancerous tumor, called a malignant rhabdoid tumor, that they let them know was aggressive and would require treatment and surgery.
Axel is currently at Riley Hospital recovering from his first chemo treatment. His mom and his family are learning to cope with their new reality of long drives and hospital visits. They are giving Axel all of the love and care that he needs right now, and the doctors are doing everything they can and monitoring him closely.
Your donation cannot relieve the emotional toll that this is taking, but it can rid some of the financial stress of the family.
Please help, if you can.
The donated money will go to Axel's momma, Lexi Spalding, to aid in gas and medical expenses.
Thank you.
Update 12/14/20
Axel is now 10 months old and after his fourth round of chemo, his tumor has shrunk. The treatment is working, but the doctors say that it will have to continue for a significant chunk of time before they are able to perform the surgery to remove it. Lexi is currently caring for Axel full time with frequent doctor visits and tending to the side effects of chemo. She is waiting to hear back from social security. The heavy mileage has caused balding tires on her family car and they need replaced. Any donation can help.
