I am a retired, handicapped school social worker, living alone, recently diagnosed with COVID, skin cancer, and gout. In the devastating flooding in Roswell, N.M., I awoke at 10 pm to banging in my garage. I opened the door, and floodwaters gushed in. I got the door closed, but the entire house was rapidly filling with water. I could not get a door open to leave as my house had become part of the flowing river. Water was up to my chest, with the roaring sounds and waves. I slipped and was completely submerged. I was able to float to a doorway and grab on to pull myself back to my feet. All the furniture in my house was floating around. A friend and his son fought to get to my house but were on the other side of the river with emergency vehicles but no way to cross. I watched them come and go. That was around 1 am. I thought I was going to die. I spent until 6:15 am pushing floating furniture away from the front door so I could open the door when the water finally receded. With no phone, I went and stood in the street, waved down a person driving by, and got a ride to the ER. The water line in the garage was 6 ft. I am 5 ft. Providence saved me, but none of my possessions or home. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated!
