Hello all! I am trying to help my sister Kristina, who has been through more than anyone's share of hardship. She is a loving single mom with two teenage boys. She has always worked very hard to give them a great home and put them and everyone above herself. She was diagnosed with breast cancer what seems like yesterday but has been many years now. She won that fight after a hard battle. The chemo caused her to develop leukemia, that really changed everything for them. She needed to be treated in Boston and Dartmouth. She had to travel weekly for treatments. She needed a bone marrow transplant. This resets your immune system, she had to have all her immunizations again like an infant does. Meanwhile the slightest germ could kill her. So masks, gloves, very plain bland food, no takeout, no outside world, during covid, a perfect storm... this took everything out of her. Weak, tired and in pain, everything is hard. She developed Graft VS Host where her body was rejecting the transplant. She then needed blood transfusion radiation at Dartmouth multiple times a week with no idea if it would even work. It was supossed to be six months of this. When almost at the end they realized a medication that Boston had her taking was supossed to be stopped at the beginning of the treatment so it needed to be started over. This went on for the last year and half with no real benefits or relief. She has been unable to work and everyday life is a struggle to say the least. Getting out of bed is hard. Her body is swollen and painful. She is the strongest person I know and somehow manages to keep the boys going and keep going. The latest call was She has developed a new cancer in her sinuses and face. More chemo, more radiation. In and out of the hospital. I live an hour away and can't be there as much as id like. Our family is spread out and not close by.
Her washing machine broke some months ago and going to the laundry mat is not realistic. She can no longer drive because she can't see. She is now blind in one eye. Id love to be able to take some of the financial stress off of her plate and get her a new washing machine. Make sure that groceries can be delivered and the boys rides and travel to school and back can be covered. Anything will add up and make a real difference for them.
