We in the 5000 Hazel Block Association are working together to raise funds for our neighbors and friends displaced by a serious house fire last weekend. The fire took hold at 3 a.m. the ice-cold night ahead of the big winter snowstorm, and neighbors in 5014 Hazel are currently displaced as a result of smoke, water, and interior damage from the fire occurring next door.
Junji, Duc and Irshaan are kind and caring folks who rent in this row house. They will be displaced for many weeks while repairs get underway and are encountering difficulties including temporary moving expenses, storing personal items, commuting to work from temporary housing, and veterinary care for their cat who was affected by the smoke/fire.
The 5000 Hazel Block Association re-launched last year to help bring neighbors together. During the fire, many folks phone-treed and checked on each other. This GoFundMe is part of that. Mutual aid means, "WE keep us safe!" The care and communication we are building together out of this scary incident will also help Hazel neighbors protect each other in future times of need—from extreme weather to the surging threat from ICE.
If you can contribute a little bit to help Junji, Duc and Irshaan defray emergency costs and get on their feet after this tough moment, we THANK YOU!

P.S. The same night as the fire on our block, there was another terrible fire nearby on 52nd St. That's one reason the fires were so bad, fire crews had to come from all over to handle it all.
These two fundraisers have been posted in support of neighbors who have been affected. If you can support them too, please do!
