Funds will be used to help us get from Colorado where we have been for 10 years all the way back home to chicago closer to family. As well as medical bills , supplies for evie, special chair , seat, g-tube clothing, which makes access to her feeding tube so much easier and discreet. This will also help us find housing. Evey little bit is going to good causes thanks to everyone who has donated and shared. Couldn't do it without your support and help.
Hello, my name is Frank, and this is my daughter Evie. She had her first seizure at the age of 3-1/2 months. We later discovered with genetic testing she has a seizure disorder called Dravet Syndrome, which causes very difficult to manage seizures, for her they have lasted 1-2hrs with adult dosages of seizure rescue meds.
She is now 19 months old.
On August 6th she suffered a 4-1/2 hour seizure due to a fever spike from having RSV. This happened while sedated and intubated and connected to EEG. When sedation was weaned off and tube removed 12 days later, we found she lost her ability to talk, walk and eat etc. due to Hypoxic Brain Injury.
With that being said, my wife Kaytlin had to stop working altogether. I am currently the sole provider to our family of four. We have medical bills over 1 million dollars pending with insurance.
My wife is working toward becoming Evie's caregiver paid by Medicaid, she will need a few months of CNA training first.
We live up in the mountains at almost 10,000ft which has made it difficult for Evie to breathe without oxygen with her new condition.
Also during emergencies for Evie she has an ambulance ride for 45min-1hr 30min out to the hospital or Flight for Life if necessary.
We need to be closer to family and the hospital. Our only choice is to leave this place we have called home for 10 years. Our plan is to move to Illinois, closer to family and medical care for Evie. We have to leave my business I've worked the past few years to build, which is our only income. The goal is to be in a house with no stairs since we do not know Evies long term possibilities and she is currently immobile.
We are asking for any help to help us leave and start a whole new life as it has changed in a big way. Any funds would go to medical bills, travel fees to move to Illinois, and hopefully help toward a down payment on a house.
