Our friend, teacher, and favorite coach Estyn Phipps recently had a bad fall while walking her dogs. Estyn’s visit to the ER and many x-rays showed that she not only broke a rib but has a large mass in her chest. Due to the complicated nature of this tumor it is being removed at Duke. The removal of this tumor, no matter benign or malignant, is going to require a difficult surgery as the tumor is pressing on her aorta and running along her spine. Her recovery is going to be a long one. Estyn will miss work, incur medical expenses, as well as travel and lodging expenses to Duke for the surgery and the follow up visits. Many of you know that Estyn is a single Mom working at App State and the Watauga Rec Center teaching multiple classes and giving private lessons. Estyn has helped many of us reach our goals and now she needs some help from all of us who love and appreciate her.
