Aid Emmet's Path to Recovery

Update (August 7, 2024)

Today marks three weeks since Emmet’s accident. In some moments it feels like three years have passed. Back in the ICU days, we hung onto each moment, each breath, waiting for positive signs that Emmet was still in there. Each day he surprised us with signs of humor, improvement, questions in Spanish, and miraculous healing! The care he received in the ICU was amazing and thorough. They worked to get his lungs to start breathing on their own again; plastic surgeons spent nearly 3 hours stitching up his eye area; therapists got him up and moving when he had barely sat up. Thankfully, he is young and healthy. So after nearly 10 days at OHSU, Emmet was discharged and able to come home!

Emmet has continued healing and doing exercises while at home. Rehab Without Walls is where he will receive PT, OT, Speech, Neuropsych and Acupuncture sessions. Due to the serious brain injury, he becomes easily fatigued. We spread out daily walks, exercises and brain activities in between naps. I have taken an indefinite leave of absence from work, so I’m able to help care and transport Emmet as needed. The main areas of pain are his fractured ribs. Fortunately, the facial fractures don’t give him any pain, but he is still not allowed to use straws. Internally his lungs and spleen were the most damaged and externally his left upper arm has some extensive road rash.

Each day we continue to be grateful that Emmet is recovering AND that we have been surrounded by love and compassion from our community. This strong web of support helped carry us through the most stressful moments. A sincere thank you to each and every one of you who has donated, sent messages, brought food, said prayers, sent gift cards and offered help. We are so thankful for the much needed help. Emmet’s full recovery will take time, but his story is one of hope and perseverance thanks to the love from our community.

This is a call to action to help support Emmet and the Krohn family!!!

Emmet is on the road to recovery after a serious vehicle crash on July 17th. He was airlifted to OHSU and had a 10-day stay in the ICU & hospital. Thanks to the wonderful care he received, he is now home to continue his recovery.

In the wake of this event, the family is working to meet all of the financial needs associated with the airlift, prolonged ICU & hospital stay, and on-going care/life needs. Please donate to help with bills, transportation, food, care, rehabilitation, restorative therapy costs, and any of the other unexpected expenses that will be cropping up.

Funds will be distributed directly to the family and are greatly appreciated.
