My name is Eiliana, or as many of you know me, Ely. I’m not one to do this usually but we could really use the help. On Sunday, 07/27/25, my family and I were struck by a speeding, reckless driver, causing our car to flip twice, forcing us to break our way through my driver's door as neither passenger was able to open theirs. Inside the car were my 8-year-old son, who is now traumatized, my 32-year-old husband, who has not been able to rest and recover after being sent via ambulance to Ryder Trauma Center from the site due to a suspected internal bleed, because now more than ever we have to provide for our family, and myself, age 30, having to do the same as I also got laid off two weeks ago from a job I gave 5 years of dedication for now needing to serve as the backbone for my family. In the aftermath of the accident, we discovered the driver lacked adequate coverage because he only carried the minimum insurance required by Florida law. This has left us facing a total loss of our vehicle, overwhelming medical bills, bodily damage, and not to mention, the lasting trauma that comes from an accident of this magnitude while the driver walked away with only a small citation.
Our story is just one among many. Across Florida, countless families experience similar injustices, where victims suffer severe financial burdens due to the state's insufficient insurance requirements. Currently, Florida mandates only minimal insurance coverage, which often fails to cover the genuine costs of accidents. This leaves victims like us vulnerable and struggling to manage the aftermath of accidents that we did not cause.
I myself consulted with legal teams and they are unable to help due to the fact that Florida does have this law in place making his policy completely legal, even though he has caused all this damage to my family and I meaning we just have to take the loss where we will be stuck with bills upon bills or pending car payment of what’s not covered by insurance, hospital bills and not to mention the massive trauma of something like this happening.
were not asking for much. But anything helps to support us during this time as we try to get back up on your feet and thank god for another day and for sparing us during this incident. ♥️
( I have excluded photos of my family and I as privacy to us as we heal)
