My name is Elizabeth, and I'm sharing our story in the hope of getting help during the most difficult time of our lives. My boyfriend, Travis, and I have four amazing and strong children, including our newborn twins, Breanna and Brandon.
My twins were born over a month early on June 5th after unexpected complications led to an emergency surgery. My daughter, Breanna, was born at only three pounds, and my son, Brandon, was only four pounds. They both needed ventilators and feeding tubes and required constant care in the NICU for over a month. Leaving the hospital without them was a terrible, unnatural feeling.
They finally came home last month, but our joy was quickly followed by an unimaginable tragedy. On July 27th, Travis attempted to take his own life after a long struggle with substance abuse and depression.
He is currently in the ICU. The attempt caused damage to his throat, and he has a tracheostomy tube to help him breathe. He also developed pneumonia and has fluid in his lungs but is getting better with time. The children and I are completely heartbroken and helpless without him. We have taken many steps backward in getting a place to live because of the ongoing hospital stays and the special care our premature babies need. We have also exhausted our finances on travel and hotels during this time.
The NICU bills are hefty, even with insurance, and now we are facing additional costs for Travis’s care. He may need therapy to learn how to talk again after his tracheostomy and will require professional treatment for his mental health.
We desperately need help and support to get into a stable home for our family. Travis is one of a kind and so good to everyone around him. The kids and I love him dearly and need him home with us. We want him to be able to come home to a safe and healing environment where our family can finally be together. He is so lucky to be alive, and we are all so grateful for that second chance at life.
Anything you can donate will help our family tremendously during these dark times. Your support will go directly toward securing a home for our family and ensuring Travis gets the best possible care for his recovery. We truly thank you in advance for helping us be a family again.
