Dustin was enjoying a beautiful summer day when a terrible accident took place. While running outside, he tripped over a tree root and fell into a bonfire. Due to the quick actions of his big brother Blake, who worked to extinguish the fire that had engulfed Dustin’s body, Dustin was saved from even further harm.
Dustin was transported to Mott’s Children’s Hospital at UofM in Ann Arbor- where he is currently in the ICU. His mother said he sustained burns on over 40% of his body. He is intubated, sedated and on a feeding tube. Right now further information on what the road ahead will look like is unclear. The next couple days will give us a better idea of where he’s at and what to expect.
Dustin and his family will need our support, emotionally and financially. If you know anyone who has experienced severe burn trauma like this, then you know how challenging and long the road to recovery is. They will be going back and forth from northern Michigan to UofM for a while.
Dustin is one of my son’s best friends and we are all so worried for this sweet boy and his family. We will be making and collecting cards and drawings to send to him for when he wakes up. If you/your child would like to mail a card I will post information soon. If you are in the Houghton Lake area I can even pick up the cards and mail them with ours.
I know not everyone has money to spare, so even if you could share this and help spread the word it would mean so much to all of us who care deeply for this child.
