Support Drew in His Fight Against Crohn's Disease

The Chavez Family, alongside the Austin Metro Baseball League, is uniting to support a dear friend and teammate, Drew, in his battle against Crohn's disease and multiple autoimmune disorders. Over 18 years of battling these conditions, prescription medications have taken a toll on his body, severely affecting his teeth and vision. Drew now faces an urgent need for $5,000–$8,000 in dental work, as broken teeth are causing pain and cutting his cheeks when he eats. Despite these hardships, Drew’s resilience continues to inspire everyone who knows him.

Drew’s Current Battle

For the past two years, Drew had been doing well, but five months ago, his health took a devastating turn. He experienced a severe Crohn’s flare-up that led to a perforation in his intestines, requiring emergency surgery. Thankfully, Drew survived the procedure, but his journey to recovery is far from over.

Since this flare-up, Drew’s health has dramatically declined:

He has lost over 50% of his body weight (from 205 lbs to 118 lbs).

He is unable to walk, sit, or move independently.

He requires 24-hour care, provided by his loving father, Jerry, who has had to stop working to care for him.

He is fighting additional complications, including blood clots in his legs.

Adding to these challenges is the financial burden. Drew’s health insurance has consistently denied coverage, leaving all medical expenses to be paid out-of-pocket. The family has been overwhelmed with mounting hospital bills, rehabilitation costs, and the need for essential medical equipment including but not limited to a stationary bike, workout bench with extension for thighs, etc. These items are critical for rebuilding his strength after losing half his body weight in just 10 weeks.
