Aid Doug Miller's Fight for a Full Recovery

My name is Nicole Miller. I’ve been married 20 years to my wonderful husband, Douglas (Doug) Miller. On August 21, 2025 at 2:05 am our lives would change forever. He woke me by screaming “ honey, help, head…” and those are the last words I heard until 11 days later in ICU. I called emergency services right away. Turning a light on his breathing got shallow and face began to droop on the right. I did what I could to keep him alive until the ambulance arrived. I knew when he became unable to speak it was serious and the EMTs began CPR. As ambulance pulled away I got woke my kids. We have two special needs children. Our daughter is autistic and has multiple medical issues and our son is legally blind and has medical issues. My son called his grandfather to come get us and take me to the hospital. I arrived about 20 minutes behind the arrival of the ambulance. I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to face. Once security heard my name they rushed me through check points. A nurse grabbed me and said come with me right away. ( I myself just recently had emergency heart surgery and I’m still recovering as well). The nurse literally pushed me on my roll-later walker with my oxygen tank to a small private room. A chaplain and a doctor will be in to see you in a few minutes make any calls now to family. I broke down. I knew it had to be bad…but how bad. I called my mom she said, “Dad will return to be with you.”( Doug’s parents both have passed from cancer in recent years). All I could think was - I can’t loose him, I can’t …. I began to pray for him, my kids and myself that I’ve had the strength he has always shown me in a medical crisis. The ER Attending came in…she said, “ Mrs Miller- your husband arrived in a coma…emts did CPR, brought him back and he lost consciousness again. I had to use AED machine and we got a CT scan of his brain…he has a massive brain bleed with hydrocephalus and needs immediate trauma surgery to try to save his life. Do you want us to proceed? I can’t guarantee any outcomes…I paged the neurosurgery team they are here waiting for your word what to do. I said, YES! Proceed! I know the risks - do all you can to save his life! A slew of papers were handed to me to sign. I then was escorted to another waiting area where I waited for over 10 hours with no word. 11 hours later he was in the ICU on a ventilator in a coma. The surgery itself the neurosurgeon told me was successful. Now we would have to wait. Within the next 48 hours he suffered two more massive brain bleeds - all in total five surgeries. They are still trying to determine what caused the bleeding.
And three days later his lungs collapsed so that was a setback. Now after 11 days he was able to be off the ventilator but could not talk nor walk well. He has a long road to recover. He’s now been moved to a specialized brain trauma rehab. He’s slowly making progress everyday and I’m so proud of the fighter he has become. I’m starting this fundraiser in his name to help assist with the unexpected medical bills, specialized transportation for him, our family bills ( since he was the main income provider for our family). He works for a small business and he doesn’t have any short term nor long term disability coverage. The neurosurgeon is optimistic that he will recover, however, it will be 6-10 months before he can return to work even on some sort of light duty and not full time. Please, if you can help ease his worry so he can concentrate on recovery and regaining strength and endurance and make it through future angiograms. Every contribution is greatly appreciated. The angels above watched over him now he needs angels here to help him.
