Moving into a new decade with a Purpose…
Hi friends,
This month, I turn 50 — a milestone birthday that’s made me reflect deeply over the past few months on life, healing, and what it means to start a new chapter with clarity and hope.
The last two years have tested me in ways I never expected. The most panicking, after a medically dismissed health issue for over a year (by a doctor, not me) spiraled into a crisis, I spent 16 days in the hospital, underwent emergency surgery, and faced a long road to recovery. I’m deeply grateful to the medical staff that worked hard to transfer me between three hospitals to find the right medical team and surgeon to get the issue resolved to lead me to surgery and healing — but the financial toll has been staggering.
I’m currently carrying over $66,000 in medical debt from that emergency alone, along with other standing debts that have become increasingly overwhelming.
As I enter this new decade of life, I want to do so with a lighter heart and a clearer path — free from the weight of fear and financial stress.
This GoFundMe is about more than just me. My hope is not only to relieve this burden for myself, but also to:
• Help support my family, who has given so much and could use a little help themselves.
• Pay forward some of the kindness shown by blessing another I know who is quietly struggling.
• Breathe easier and finally be able to focus on mental and emotional healing, rebuilding, giving back, and living fully.
If you feel led to contribute, any amount — truly — helps. Whether it’s $5 or $50 or simply sharing this post, I am deeply grateful. This is not an easy thing for me to do, but I’m trusting in community, compassion, and the belief that asking for help is not weakness — it’s courage. My intention was to post this as I entered my birthday month, and as you can see I’m one day behind as I wasn’t brave enough.
Thank you for walking with me into this new decade of life. Your support means more than words can say.
If you prefer to Venmo or Zelle to avoid fees taken out of your blessing, I can provide that information or to make an online contribution directly to one of the many medical providers directly please let me know. I currently make $5 to $25 a month payments to each provider with the exception of three that won’t make payment arrangements and they happen to be the three largest amounts and I’m facing collections, and I haven’t been able to make the payments for June yet.
I’ve worked so hard to keep my credit clear and my score in good standing and the CFPB unfortunately doesn’t help in my case as my medical bills are all over $500.00.
I’ve been struggling to post this since the first of July. I’m finally taking the plunge.
With love and gratitude,
Debra
