Aid in Debra's financial struggles while healing

Hi, my name is Debra, i'm reaching out to all of you, this is not something I ever imagined I'd do.

Recently, I was hospitalized in Troy Corewell (Beaumont) for 8/9 days after coming down with Influenza A. The illness progressed quickly and dangerously, and I was placed on a ventilator, (life support) for five days, followed by a few days in ICU then a few days on the progressive floor. I have preexisting conditions asthma etc that made this even more life threatening. By God's grace, Im now home-but recovery has been incredibly difficult. In the beginning, I couldn't barely stand, walk or use the bathroom on my own, after the time on the ventilator. I'm getting Physical Therapy at home and still on oxygen for a few months and will soon be using a BiPAP machine to help with ongoing issues with high carbon dioxide levels in my lungs. I'll start Pulmonary Rehab in June hopefully care team said. (5/1/2025 update My care team tells me no driving no return to work (searching for new position) for another 6 weeks at the least) I have some tremors (from ventilator) that are slowly fading but it affects many things daily going forward.

This isn't the first health battle I've faced recently, Last year, while working at CVS/Merritain in billing and coding, I contracted RSV and had to take a couple weeks short term disability to heal. In late 2024, I was Impacted by a large company layoff and received only a small severance in December 2024. I've was doing the best to rebuild budget and job search since then. But now after my hospital stay Im worried month to month, I can't cover the basic bills and not miss house payments with out working for a while. Budgeting for an emergency just didn't cover this, I quickly drained the savings, and my insurance doesn't cover all too. The kids have also helped financially but only so much they can do.

I've spent my life giving to others - as a mom, a friend, a co-worker and a worker who shows up np matter what. But through these series of health challenges, I've found myself in a place where I need help and this was suggested from a friend. Im going to be in danger of losing my home and I have extra costs to cover many medical and living coasts as I'll be off work for a few months my healthcare team has said.

As someone who spent many years raising children on my own, I've always prided myself on being strong and self sufficient. My kids are grown now, but that instinct to take care of everything myself is still there. That's why asking for help is so hard-but I'm learning that sometimes, strength means allowing others to show up for you too

Through this difficult time, my son has been by my side every step of the way-helping manage my care, advocating for me when I couldn't speak for myself, and making sure I never felt alone in this fight, I'm so grateful for his love, support and strength . He has been my rock. Chelsea too for all her love and hugs.

Many of you know me through my side job, small business Detroit Vintage was hoping to see you all at Finders Keepers, Vintage Market, and Simply Unique shows this spring - but fingers crossed I can heal myself through PT and Pulmonary Physical Therapy to see you all in the fall.

Right now, Im facing a pile of medical bills that insurance doesn't cover, insurance costs, and basic living expenses, all while unable to work or drive until I receive doctors release and that takes time after a ventilator. Now I know we are all struggling, but whether it's $5.00 to $50.00 or simply sharing with others, your kindness would mean the world to me.
