Aid Dawn Thompson's Fight Against Multiple Myeloma

Hello friends and family,
Just a little update on my moms prognosis she has been in the hospital now for almost 2 weeks with a few complications. She got sick and had to be admitted and now she has diverticulitis. So she will remain in the hospital on antibiotics till she is well enough to go home.
My name is Melissa Vance and my family and I are coming here to ask for the help of everyone that can take a minute to read our plea and consider helping. My mom Dawn is a God-fearing Southern Baptist woman who has raised 4 kids and helped raise 11 grandchildren. My beautiful mother is 62 years young and this is her second bout with cancer. My mom has been tested by God in so many trials between cancer, a broken neck caused by the multiple myeloma, and medical malpractice that caused her to lose her left leg 14 years ago. Through all this, she stayed fast in her faith and belief in the Lord. Our mom has served others in the medical field as a Respiratory Therapist before her health started to take a turn and she was no longer able to work, but that did not stop her as she continued to raise 4 kids and become a homemaker, which we thank her for daily as this led us to becoming great loving parents ourselves to her 11 grandchildren.
On April 11th, 2024, our mom and grandmother Dawn Thompson was given the devastating news that she has multiple myeloma, her second life-altering bout with cancer. The first being childhood malignant fibrous histiocytoma, a soft tissue sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that either starts in the bone or the soft tissue connecting the organs and the cells at the age of 17. This new news has hit my family like a wrecking ball. She has been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment every week since April. Multiple myeloma is a rare, incurable blood cancer that affects the plasma cells in the bone marrow. This diagnosis has put a financial burden on my parents as my mom has not been able to work in years. My father has been the sole monetary provider as my mom has always been the glue that held us all together.
This treatment has essentially led to my mom having a stem cell transplant on January 17th, 2025, and numerous amounts of chemotherapy and radiation, all of which are costly and essential in managing this disease.
As mom undergoes these treatments, the medical bills and the bills for daily needs like groceries, power, and water are becoming exponential. Our father Richard has had to stop working to be her full-time caregiver for the next 2 to 3 months after the stem cell transplant because her immune system was shut down to allow itself to rebuild.
We are reaching out to the community during these difficult times. Our family understands that times are hard for many and any donation and prayer for her helps. Your support means everything to us and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
