It is with sadness that I share that grandma Idalia passed away in hospice early morning of August 1 leaving behind her beautiful granddaughter and caretaker, Danielle.

Many of you may not be aware that last Friday she went into the hospital and by Tuesday evening she was transported to hospice. The doctors think she had some kind of heart episode while in the hospital. Her lungs were also in bad shape and they believe she had pneumonia. She had been to the doctors previously that week but no one caught anything in the regular checkups.

Danielle is devastated and is feeling very alone, scared, and at a loss as to how to move forward - grandma was her sole source of income.

It’s a very difficult situation that requires prayer first and foremost, and discernment on how to move forward. What is the best way to help this young lady? She has her own disabilities that are making this more challenging on how to navigate the immediate future. Hence the reason for this fundraiser.

I know God brought us into their lives for a reason. Had we not answered the call just a few short months ago to fix a falling garage ceiling, this could be a very different situation for Danielle.

Through this whole process we have been able to help with the following:

1. Move Danielle in with grandma
2. Install a handicap toilet for both of them
3. Fix things around the house
4. Locate prepaid funeral plans
5. Locate other important documents
6. Provide safety for them
7. Provide grandma with peace of mind that her granddaughter would be looked after and cared for after she was gone
8. They would see prayers answered
9. They would see there are still nice people in the world willing to help others
10. I would get to see her smile after using the new toilet for the first time. I would get to see the joy on her face when bringing her a strawberry shake. I would get to see and hear her disgust with me when trying to speak Spanish. Haha she would get upset about my attempts. I am not good at all.
11. By moving Danielle in with grandma and helping fix things around the house, the two of them got to enjoy her last remaining months on this earth- quality time with each other, a closeness they have always shared, especially after losing Danielle’s mom in 2021 at 58, grandma’s daughter.
12. And now to educate this young lady on how to budget, handle finances, and where the hard cuts need to occur since she is navigating her own disabilities.

Difficult days lie ahead for this young lady and I pray we as a community along with so many others can guide and support her through this painful transition.

This 90 year old grandma gave her best to this young lady and did everything she could to make sure she was cared for but it won’t last long. All of us thought grandma would be around for several more years. She was fast with the walker and very lively and spicy, so this is something we didn’t see coming.

We covet your prayers at this time as our team helps her walk through some of these things. I’ve not seen a situation like this up close, so it’s hard to navigate and will appreciate any help you can give.

I know the Lord saw this and put us in this young lady’s life! He knew what was coming.

Oh Lord guide us and thank you for allowing me to be there with grandma in those final days. Strengthen us all in the mighty name of Jesus I pray, amen!
