Help Our Dad, William “Bill/Biff” Byford, Fight Colon Cancer

Our dad, William Byford—known to many as Bill or Biff—is a true “mountain man” from the great Northwest. A veteran and a former logger, he later built his own log cabin business. Life hasn’t always been easy for Dad; he grew up with many hardships that left him carrying the weight of trauma, anger, and self-doubt. But in 2001, his life took a surprising turn.

While tracing our family’s lineage, Dad found himself with a ticket to Ireland. At the same time, he began meeting new people through online chat rooms focused on various interests, including Ireland. It was there that he met Marion, the woman who would become his soulmate. Their long-distance relationship blossomed, and in 2005, Marion moved to the U.S. to marry him. Together, they cared for many needing home health care, including our grandmother, who lived with them during her final days.

In 2009, after enduring the tragic loss of Marion’s son and our grandmother in 2010, Dad and Marion decided to move back to her little village in Ireland. This move turned out to be a blessing. With Marion’s love and the peace of Ireland, Dad began to heal from the pain of his past. He became more loving, understanding, and patient—a transformation we cherish deeply.

But now, Dad faces another battle. He has been diagnosed with colon cancer. His treatment will require frequent trips to Dublin, where he’ll need to stay for extended periods—up to 8 weeks or more. With the added financial burden of medical bills and the inability to continue the odd jobs he’s relied on for income, we’re reaching out for help.
