Support Cody Harwood’s Recovery Journey

Donation protected
UPDATE 12/18/24: Since starting this GoFundMe in the early days of Cody's recovery journey (September), much has happened so I wanted to update this fundraiser and put it out into the world once again. Cody has undergone 11 surgeries to-date and has spent around 50 days in the hospital since this began (off and on). He has now been in the hospital for Labor Day, his twins' first birthday, and next week he will likely be there for Christmas. He has been battling a MRSA infection and he now has a wound vac, a PICC line to his heart for antibiotics, and other tools that the doctors are using to try and battle the infection and help the leg to heal. The surgeries he's been receiving generally involve removing dead tissue and dead muscle in an attempt to keep the infection at bay. The doctors say infection loves dead tissue, so removing it alongside IV antibiotics 'should' fix the issue. The problem is it's not... at least not as quickly or efficiently as we'd hoped. In summary this has become a MUCH longer, more complicated recovery journey than anyone thought it would be. The doctors have officially begun removing muscle that will obviously be gone for life, including that which moves his toes.

Of course we are optimistic and trying to stay upbeat but the Harwoods cannot catch a break, so we are rallying and hoping to rally other friends and family who wish to help the Harwoods by donating a small amount to keep them afloat while they focus on recovery alone. They have begun moving into their new home which needs a lot of work before they move out of their old one, and Cody clearly cannot do the work himself so it's a slow moving process in the midst of Cody's healing journey. In the meantime until they fully move, they of course have double utilities and mortgage which adds unneeded pressure to their family. The new home is/was intended to save them on housing costs compared to their old one, and right now it is temporarily doing the opposite. They just need some help to get through this rough patch. They are good, strong people with grit and they will get through this, but it is an extremely difficult time. I appreciate everyone who has taken the time to read this and help, even if just to share this link with others. We love and appreciate you all!

ORIGINAL STORY: Cody Harwood, my brother, recently had a workplace injury which resulted in him being admitted to the hospital where he has been for 9 days as I’m writing this, and he has at least 5 more days (bare minimum, likely longer) remaining of his hospital stay. He has had 3 surgeries in the past week, has a 4th surgery scheduled for next week, and likely has many more down the line as he heals. What began as a torn muscle turned into compartment syndrome which required emergency surgical intervention and several more surgeries after, in attempt to correct the damage. He will need a lot of physical rehab after this and will not be fully functional for quite a while.

He has a 5 year old daughter and twins who just turned 1. His wife, Alex, works part time and cares for the kids full time. While Cody is working on getting assistance for a workplace injury, it will take a while to process and once it does kick in, it will be significantly less than what he was bringing home at his job. Even after any assistance he receives, this is a huge hit to his family emotionally and financially.

The Harwoods are the type of family who is always willing to help people out, and they are very generous. We hope that they can receive a little generosity in return during this trying time until they get back on their feet.
