Aid Catrin's Journey to Healing and Mobility

My partner, Catrin, shattered her right tibia while visiting with family at the beach on 2/12. A suddenly large wave knocked her right knee inwards, crushing the top of her tibia and tearing her meniscus. The wave hit with such force that it also left a large split down the length of her shinbone. She has had to have two surgeries to reset the bone & its fragment, repair the meniscus tear & install a steel plate with several screws and donate bone to fill in the crushed tibia. Without these surgeries, Catrin would not have been able to walk again. She has since been recovering from these surgeries at a nursing home in Seattle.

Due to the severity of Catrin’s injury, she will need several months of recovery in a space that can accommodate a wheelchair/walker/crutches. The doctors have said it will be until Christmas before she can walk on her own again. Because of accessibility issues at our current residence, Catrin & I will need to temporarily relocate to her parent’s home in California.

Since this injury has been so severe & life altering, Catrin will be taking medical leave from her job. This process takes time before being approved through her employer & Washington state, so at the moment, she is not receiving any income. I am faced with packing our belongings & organizing our affairs to fully move within only 3 weeks. Since this has all happened, our savings have been drained & we are left scrambling until medical leave comes through, which could be several weeks to a couple months away.

We are currently raising money to cover the following expenses, many of which will need to be secured in the next week:

Rental truck

Rental car for accessible relocation

Storage unit rental

Gas

Hotel

Gift card for nurses if we are able <3

Because Catrin is the youngest person in the nursing home, the nurses have been giving her extra attention & care, even allowing us to bring her cat to visit! We want to use anything leftover to purchase the nurse gift cards for a coffee or something to show our appreciation.
