Carlo Bartlett's Health Journey

4/30/25 Update from Carlo's Mom Lauren: We continue to be extremely and eternally grateful for your support.

Since our last update, Carlo's labs were re-checked on 4/28 at our vet, who said everything is trending in the right direction! Carlo continues to not be super interested in food, so getting him to eat is our main focus right now, as well as his twice daily rounds of medication to continue managing the infections.

As of now, he has another lab re-check scheduled for May 9th. After that, we'll likely schedule another GI ultrasound, to hopefully help determine the cause of the infections, and move towards managing his inflammation long term.

Will continue to keep you updated. All of our love to you and yours! Thank you so much for caring about our sweet Car Car. It means the world.

4/22/25 Update from Carlo's Mom Lauren: We are absolutely overwhelmed and blown away by your support. "Thank you" will never be enough, but it's what we have. I'm so happy to share that Carlo is home! He was released from the hospital on the evening of 4/22. He had a recheck with his normal vet today to create a plan moving forward:
  • Everyone's goal for Carlo is meaningful quality of life (as opposed to elongating his life only for our sake).
  • He will get lab panels next week and the week after, and likely another GI ultrasound again in June, to ensure he continues to recover from his infections and anemia.
  • If he successfully overcomes the infections, we'll move on to managing his inflammation long-term, which likely caused the infections.
  • He's also gained half a pound since last week - great news!

Carlo now has several chronic issues to manage, but we'll do whatever it takes to ensure he's comfortable and well cared for for as long as we're blessed to have him. We cannot thank you enough for your support that's helping us do this.
All our love to you!

We are friends of Carlo Bartlett, and like the thousands of people who love him around the world, we’ve been sending all our love his way during his medical emergency.

In case you missed it: Carlo stopped eating on April 16. On April 17, his parents took him to the vet, where lab results revealed a gastrointestinal issue and anemia. An abdominal ultrasound was scheduled for April 22. In the meantime, Carlo received fluids and was sent home with anti-nausea medication and an appetite stimulant. He ate a little that day, but by the morning of April 18, he had stopped eating again and began vomiting. Following their vet’s advice, Carlo’s parents rushed him to an emergency vet.

At the pet hospital, Carlo’s vitals were taken, and he was found to have a fever. He was admitted for monitoring, and he and his parents waited ten hours for an abdominal ultrasound.

The ultrasound revealed two bacterial infections: acute pancreatitis and cholecystitis. The vet recommended hospitalization so Carlo could receive IV antibiotics, fluids, and nutritional support while his body recovered. Thankfully he responded miraculously well to the treatments over the weekend, and his appetite went back to normal on April 19th. Unfortunately, his appetite dropped off again around 3AM on April 20th, and has yet to pick back up. As of 10AM on April 20th, he remains at the hospital in hopes his appetite will increase and he’ll get to come home today.

Carlo’s parents are deeply committed to his quality of life and have spent thousands of dollars over the past year on specialized healthcare for both Carlo and his brother, Bruno - expenses beyond the scope of routine care. These include six tooth extractions for Bruno; radioiodine therapy to eliminate Carlo’s tumor and treat his hyperthyroidism; monthly blood panels for Carlo; and ongoing prescriptions for his chronic kidney disease and hypothyroidism.

We’d love to show our support during this especially difficult chapter.

100% of the money raised will go directly toward covering Carlo’s recent medical expenses. Photos of itemized bills are posted here for transparency (with personal and business information removed to protect Carlo’s family and the providers).
