Brycin Barry is in 8th grade, 13 years old, and an amazing kind-hearted child. This is a kid whose soul is so pure and who lights up any room he is in. He loves football and was a captain on his 8th-grade team.

We have started this GoFundMe to help with his current and upcoming medical expenses, therapy, and to continue raising our two other children. His mother is a stay-at-home mom, and we own and operate a small business and farm that has to be put on hold until we can get Brycin stable and through some physical and occupational therapy, which will take months. Brycin requires 24-hour care and supervision.

Here is his story. On Tuesday, August 5, his team took the field for the season opener. Throughout the course of the game, Brycin went out of the game for severe cramping—he would come out, then go back in. In the 3rd quarter, he went out and never went back in. His whole body started cramping. Later that evening, he was taken by ambulance to the local hospital, where he was admitted and diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis.

On Wednesday, August 6, at around 6 pm, Brycin was discharged from the hospital; they said his blood work had stabilized. Thursday was okay, and he seemed to be feeling better. Friday, he was again okay, but we could tell something was off. Later that evening, Brycin was taken by ambulance again to our local hospital for severe whole-body cramping. He was held in the ER till 3 am Saturday morning and was sent home. By 10 am Saturday, he was back in our local hospital again for severe body cramps that would not stop. He was then admitted to the hospital because his blood work was rising again.

Saturday evening, around 7 pm, he started having severe cramps (whole body), and he did this consistently for 2.5 hours. Nothing the nurses or doctor did helped. He was then transferred to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, TN. He was admitted to the hospital there on Sunday, August 10. While being there, he started having worse cramps that would cause his neck to cramp and cause him to have trouble getting good airflow and also for his whole body to start shaking. He also started getting very confused about where he was or who me or his mother was. His overall health started declining Sunday night.

Monday, he took a turn for the worse and was admitted to the PICU. They ran a lot of tests on him, and 24 hours later, he was admitted back to the floor. Wednesday evening, he was discharged from Vanderbilt Children’s and sent home. Brycin was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (FND) with abnormal movement, Rhabdomyolysis, Acute Dystonia, Catatonia, and Elevated Transaminase level.

Brycin has a tough road ahead and a lot of uncertainty. He continues to fight hard every day, and his courage is truly inspirational. We humbly ask for your support to help provide him everything he needs to try and make a full recovery.
