Please read his story below:
Hello, my name is Brian Fischer, and I truly appreciate you taking a moment to read my story.
My family and I have been blindsided by a tragic accident I had on July 5th, 2024. I fell 25 feet and landed on my back. I was unable to move or feel my legs. I was airlifted to North Memorial where it was determined I had a complete break of my lower spine, 2 broken ribs, collapsed lung, and internal bleeding. Surgery was completed but the break was unrepairable, leaving me permanently paralyzed from the waist down.
I ended up spending 1 week in ICU and 2 weeks in the surgical unit. I was then transferred to Courage Kennedy Rehabilitation. Unfortunately, on August 22nd, 2024, my insurance notified me that they would no longer pay for any more rehabilitation. In order to avoid paying for it out of pocket, I went home the next day with only 1 week of medical supplies and a rented wheelchair. Also, they provided no training for my daily care to Lesley, who is taking care of myself as well as our 28-year-old special needs daughter, Kristy, 24/7.
Currently, I only have a few medical equipment that is for the short term and Lesley is having to lift me in her truck to get me to all my doctor & rehab appointments.
I am in the process of applying for social security disability; however, I am being told it could be 6 months up to a year before I hear anything back to see if I am approved. Unfortunately, I am unable to apply for any help from the county until social security disability is finalized, which means I cannot get a care person to help care for me. During this time, my medical bills are coming in at a record pace.
Any money I receive will be used to secure a wheelchair accessible vehicle, help with medical bills, any needed medical supplies, and an electric wheelchair to provide me my independence. Any amount you are willing to contribute is greatly appreciated and if you are unable to contribute at this time, sharing with your friends and family would mean the world to us as well.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and helping my family and I as we figure out a new normal.
Lots of love from Brian, Lesley, and Kristy.
Brian has a long road ahead of him and he would never think twice to give you his shirt off his back if you needed one. Please help Brian if you can; anything will help.
